NPPA Points Championship Series
As with most sanctioned motor sports events, we as well have a points system for our truck pulling competitors. The key to most points championships is to attend all the events and be as consistent as possible. In years past the points were accumulated differently, but in today's world it is actually quite simple to understand. For those interested the points works as follows.
Each vehicle receives points for their finishing position. The points received depend on the number of vehicles entered in each class at each event. Last place always receives a minimum of two (2) points and the winner of the class receives one (1) more point than the number of entries. So in retrospect, you may never receive the same amount of points at any two events.
Example: Six (6) truck entered the modified 4WD class.
Winner receives 7
Second Place receives 6
Third Place receives 5
Fourth Place receives 4
Fiftth Place receives 3
last place receives 2
Example: Three (3) Trucks in a class
Winner receives 4
Second Place receives 3
last place receives 2
If you get disqualified for some reason you receive no points. Oddly enough if you register for your two weight classes and happen to break in class #1, but do not scratch and get a refund you will receive one (1) point for being at competition event in the second class.
The best method for the serious competitive puller is to keep track each week of how many were in your class and where everyone finished. At the end of the season you'll hopefully have more points than the others.
The number of awards per class (which are presented at the annual awards banquet) is predetermined by the average number of vehicles per event throughout the season. If there should happen to be a tie of points totals for position, it is based on higher amount of finishes until tie is broken. Lastly, which I almost forgot, a competitor does not officially start to accumulate championship points for his performance until the individual is a current member of Northern Penobscot Pullers Assoc. In the past, there have been competitors who finished in the top 3 of their class, but did not receive the proper recognition because they failed to join the club as a member. Oddly enough, the membership dues are only $20.00 per year, which includes a free ticket to the annual awards banquet.
